Herbivore KAL - Part I

KAL will begin on Thursday, November 12th with the November episode of the Sweaters for Dragons Podcast. We’ll tackle this project in 2 parts as the pattern is conveniently divided into two sections.  Cast on, setup, and Section 1 will be discussed during the November podcast.  Section 2, border, and bind off will be discussed during a special podcast the week following.

Items needed

  • Herbivore pattern, by Stephen West:  available on Ravelry or from Watch Stephen Knit (westknits.blogspot.com) for $5.00
  • Yarn:  430 yds Fingering Weight.  Per Stephen, this shawl can be made with as little as 350 yds, but better safe than sorry.
  • Needles:  US 6/4 mm 32” circular
  • Notions:  12 stitch markers, tapestry needle

Yarn Special

Frog Creek Fibers has created a Limited Edition yarn specifically for this KAL.  The colorway is called “Herbivore” and is a gorgeous combination of browns and greens.  This colorway is available in their Luxuriant yarn base, 435 yds. Of 80% Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon.  They will have 39 skeins available in their Etsy store, frogcreekfibers.etsy.com.  Cost is $24.00 plus $3.00 shipping. This Limited Edition yarn is now available for purchase.
